Product Usage
For use by eye care professionals only.
Schirmer Tear Flow Test (Schirmer I Test):
1. Open the sterile, individually wrapped Schirmer strip pouch.
2. Without anesthesia, gently fold the rounded end of the strip at the notch.
3. Place the folded end of the strip over the lower lid margin near the lateral canthus (outer corner of the lower eyelid). Take care not to touch the cornea.
4. Ask the patient to gently close their eyes and keep them closed for 5 minutes.
5. After 5 minutes, remove the strips and immediately measure the length of the wetted (moistened) section of the strip in millimeters using the printed scale.
6. Record the result for each eye.
Interpretation guidelines (consult clinical references):
- Normal tear production: > 15mm in 5 minutes
- Mild dry eye: 10-14mm
- Moderate dry eye: 5-9mm
- Severe dry eye: < 5mm
Single use only. Dispose after use.
Storage: Store at room temperature in a dry place. Use before expiration date.
Ingredients
Material: Medical-grade cellulose fiber filter paper (typically Whatman No 41 grade), individually wrapped sterile pouch. Some variants are impregnated with blue or white indicator dye for easier reading. Printed millimeter scale.
No active chemical ingredients - this is a diagnostic test strip.
